Chris Kanemura
Chris can be compared to a grandfather when it comes to the Internet. Surfing the Net for the first time in 1993 and started developing his own sites in 1995. With over 11 years working in the Internet industry, his experience and innovative ideas have helped lead the transformation of Hawaii’s media landscape through his work at The Honolulu Advertiser. Having been tasked with launching The Advertiser’s web site in 1999, his team built and continues to maintain Hawaii’s largest online news and information resource. Since becoming the department manager in late 2002, his team has won nearly two-dozen online journalism awards from organizations like the Newspaper Association of America (NAA), and the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). In 2004, Chris’ early (2001) adoption and work with the now mainstream RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feeds, won his team NAA’s Best Practices (innovation) Award. In 2005, the Pacific Technology Foundation, the Mayor’s office, and the Lt. Governor’s office recognized him as one of Hawaii’s top high tech leaders in 2005. Later that year, Chris won national recognition from the Newspaper Association of America as one of the industry’s “20 under 40,” which identifies 20 up and coming executives under the age of 40. Besides his business development and strategic planning role at Axiom Groove, Chris continues to do work with The Advertiser and serves as partner in the award winning web development firm, Entheos Interactive.
